The Michael J. Perry Scholarship is named for the late Mike Perry, a football official from Buffalo, NY who was tragically killed in a car accident. Mike Perry was a special person. He was benevolent and always cared about his fellow man. Most importantly, he was a man of great character. As an applicant for this scholarship, your application will reflect not only your academic achievements, you will also be judged on how your character reflects that of Mike Perry. Stop and think about the good things you do when no one is looking…..that is a good starting point for developing character.
The scholarship shall be available to the children of all active members of the following organizations:
Note: Grandchildren of members and children and grandchildren of retired members are not eligible for this scholarship at this time.
- Western New York Certified Football Officials Association
- Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Football Officials / Empire Chapter
- Mid-American Football Officials Association
Recipients must be graduating seniors from a public, private, parochial, charter or home school who are pursuing a two or four-year degree or a certificate credential at a post-secondary, non-profit institution of higher education.
The student(s) will need to demonstrate proficiency/competency in the following areas:
- Academics
- Extra-Curricular Activities
- Community Involvement
- Citizenship
- Volunteerism
The amount of the award will be based on the funds available at the time the award is offered. The award may be modified at the discretion of the Committee.
The check will be issued by the Community Foundation For Greater Buffalo to the bursar of said university.
The successful candidate will need to show proof of acceptance upon notification of the award.
The scholarship winner(s) will be determined by the Michael J. Perry Scholarship Foundation Committee until further notice.
The application for the scholarship shall be posted by the end of February in each year via web site or E-mail.
The applications will be due by a published date in March in the year that the student is graduating and a winner(s) will be selected by the last day of May in that year.
The scholarship application will be available again in January.
